The VA Salt Lake City Health Care System (VASLCHCS) held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, July 8, for a new primary care clinic located at 3711 S. State St. in South Salt Lake.
This project marks the initial step in moving primary care services from the main hospital into a facility specifically designed for that purpose.
The new construction is expected to span approximately 112,000 square feet and is projected to open in late 2028.
Upon completion, the facility will house primary care and women’s health services currently located at the George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center on Foothill Drive. Other services relocating to the new site include mental health care, pharmacy, pathology, lab medicine, and whole health services.
Dr. Angela D. Williams, executive director of the VASLCHCS, stated that moving these services will create additional capacity for specialty care at the medical center while improving regional access and convenience.
During the ceremony, South Salt Lake Mayor Cherie Wood expressed pride in the city's role in serving veterans. Navy Veteran and local resident Brett Tiedemann also spoke, encouraging veterans to utilize the new location.
Molasky Development is managing the construction of the project, with Layton Construction serving as the general contractor and Perkins Eastman leading the design. The VA Salt Lake City Health Care System provides services to more than 80,000 veterans throughout Utah, Idaho, and Nevada.
