A new wildfire broke out north of St. George on Sunday afternoon, prompting officials to issue an evacuation warning for residents in the area between St. George and The Ledges as firefighters began responding to the blaze.
Evacuation Warnings Issued
The Turkey Farm Fire was first reported by WildCAD at 3:47 p.m. on July 12, 2026. Within an hour of the initial report, automated updates indicated the fire had reached approximately 5 acres, though officials had not yet provided details regarding containment levels.
Evacuation Preparations
An evacuation warning was placed on Genasys Evacuation Map Zone STS-E002. According to KDXU, while the warning does not mandate that residents leave their homes immediately, it serves as a directive for those in the affected area to be prepared for potential departure if fire conditions change.
Officials advised residents within the warning zone to prepare essential items, including medications, important documents, pets, and emergency supplies. Authorities also emphasized the importance of ensuring all residents are familiar with their designated evacuation routes.
Fire Location and Visibility
The fire is burning within the footprint of a previous burn scar from the 2020 Turkey Farm Fire. Utah Fire Info reported via Facebook that despite the new activity, fire resources possess a high level of confidence in their ability to surround and address the fire quickly.
Washington County Emergency Services noted that the fire remains visible from various points throughout the valley and along State Route 1/18.
