The extension of U-111 between South Jordan Parkway and Herriman Boulevard is underway to accommodate growth and improve traffic flow in Salt Lake County. According to a notice from the Utah Department of Transportation, the project is expected to be fully open in late fall 2027.
The north end of the new U-111 was scheduled to open to drivers as early as Wednesday, Sept. 9. These two new lanes begin near South Jordan Parkway and extend to 11800 South to provide a safe and efficient route. Traffic from the old Bacchus Highway will shift to the new U-111, with shifts occurring from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to minimize public impact. This new traffic flow includes a section of temporary one-way traffic near South Jordan Parkway and a new traffic signal at 11800 South.
Work continues past 11800 South, making that area an active work zone. Crews will also perform weekend daytime work to continue progress on the extension. Drivers should expect delays and should follow signage and instructions from flaggers. Additionally, those living or working nearby may experience increased noise and vibration as new road paint is applied.
The project involves multiple entities. South Jordan City is updating the U-111 intersection at South Jordan Parkway along with tie-ins at Lake Avenue and Docksider Drive. Simultaneously, Herriman City is working on Herriman Boulevard (12600 South) to connect to the new U-111. The speed limit on Bacchus Highway between Trans-Jordan Landfill and 11800 South has been reduced to 40 mph to maintain safety for crews and the public.
Officials have noted that the work zone poses serious safety hazards and have observed people walking, mountain biking, riding all-terrain vehicles, and playing within the construction area. Drivers and pedestrians are urged to obey all signage and avoid entering the work zone for any reason.
Construction schedules for the project are based on various factors and remain subject to change. Standard work hours are from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
