The individual called into Central Dispatch at 6 PM that evening, stating he had crashed and was very badly injured.

The crash site was located in a very steep and high area of the mountains. Because of the terrain, two helicopters were used to search for the patient while a third helicopter staged to transport him.

Once rescuers located the patient, they began a technical rescue due to the dangerous and steep nature of the environment. Despite the efforts of the rescue teams, the patient succumbed to his injuries.

Utah County Sheriff Investigators and personnel from the Utah Medical Examiner’s Office were called to the scene for further investigation.

The name of the patient is not being released as officials work to notify next of kin.
