Safety concerns have been raised regarding the intersection of US-89 and 6600 South following several near misses and almost accidents, according to a September 17 report. The report notes issues involving drivers leaving Uintah and pulling out onto US-89.
The intersection features three lanes on 6600 South. Drivers are advised that the center lane is for traveling straight ahead across US-89 toward Smitty’s, Pitchers Sports, and the hotel; turning left or right from this lane is prohibited. The left lane is designated for turning left onto US-89 northbound, while the right lane is for turning right onto US-89 southbound. Right turns are permitted only on a green light, as there is no turn on red.
City officials are working toward several goals related to road projects, including ensuring street signs comply with new state regulations and reclassifying 6600 South as a collector road. Additional objectives include widening 6600 South to include a walking path and attending meetings to voice city needs to transportation and planning officials.
