Utah's Teacher of the Year has died just weeks after receiving the honor, according to a September 16 report. Talia Casares became unresponsive while at work on Monday.
The incident occurred during a teacher prep day while students were not in her classroom. Despite efforts from first responders and coworkers, Casares passed away. Casares was a fourth-grade and sixth-grade teacher at Moroni Elementary School in Sanpete County.
Casares served in the school's dual-immersion program. She was recognized for using her experience as a Mexican immigrant to inspire her students.
