BYU basketball legend Danny Ainge will be inducted into the Naismith Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame on Oct. 22 in Kansas City, Missouri, BYU announced Monday. The 2026 class boasts Ainge, Jay Wright, Tubby Smith, Ted Owens, Glen Rice and the late Walt Hazzard. They will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City.“The Class of 2026 represents the very best of college basketball-individuals whose performance, leadership and impact helped shape the game at the highest level,” said CEO of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame Kevin Anderson. “Their legacies will forever be preserved as part of the sport’s rich history.”Ainge holds multiple records from his time at BYU including the record for career field goals made with 987 and consecutive double-figure scoring games with 112. Ainge is also one of six players to score over 2,000 points, placing third on the all-time list behind Tyler Haws and Jimmer Fredette.He also ranks second all-time in points per game with 20.91, field goal attempts with 1,875 and double-figure scoring games with 117.Ainge won the John Wooden Award in the 1980-81 season when he averaged 24.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists. He also led BYU to its only Elite 8 appearance after knocking off Princeton, UCLA and Notre Dame in the tournament.Ainge was selected No. 31 overall to the Boston Celtics in the 1981 NBA draft and played 14 seasons in the NBA. He won two championships with the Celtics in 1984 and 1986.After his career, Ainge would serve as the president of basketball operations for the Celtics and is currently the CEO of the Utah Jazz, a position he has held since December of 2021.
