The program's theme for the year is Read Across the World, which uses monthly themes inspired by different stages of a journey. Students are encouraged to establish reading habits, explore new genres, and participate in monthly Family Reading Challenges. Schools plan to bring these themes to life through activities, celebrations, and read-alouds.
The August portion of the program is titled Pack Your Bags. This month focuses on preparing for reading adventures by encouraging students and families to find books that spark curiosity and to establish consistent reading routines. The August Family Reading Challenge encourages participants to read in a new location, such as a park, under a tree, or in a blanket fort.
The district emphasizes that building strong readers requires community involvement from teachers, parents, and neighbors. The initiative seeks to make reading visible throughout the community to foster a culture of literacy.
