A Utah man was killed in a rollover crash in Lander County on August 17, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP).
Michael McCormack, 72, of Moab, Utah, was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle overturned.
Troopers responded to the crash on State Route (SR) 305 near the Lander County mile marker 24, approximately 24 miles north of Austin, around 2:05 p.m. on August 17.
A preliminary investigation determined that McCormack was traveling southbound on SR-305 in a white Toyota Tundra. The driver allowed the pickup truck to travel off the roadway and onto the right dirt shoulder. After inputting steering to the left, the Toyota rotated and re-entered the southbound travel lane. The vehicle then crossed the centerline and the driver steered to the right, causing the Toyota to rotate and skid across the northbound travel lane before going off the roadway onto the dirt shoulder and overturning.
McCormack was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The incident is an open investigation being conducted by the Nevada Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team (MIRT).
