Freshman midfielder Anna Neff played a critical role in both second-half goals on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, leading BYU to a 2-0 shutout victory against TCU at South Field. The win, reported by the Daily Herald on Sept. 28, 2026, marks the first time the Cougars have defeated the Horned Frogs since 2010.
Neff, who played 28 minutes during the match, earned her first career assist in the 66th minute when she slotted a pass from Afton Perry to Emma Hamberlin for the game's opening goal. Hamberlin navigated past a TCU defender to find the back of the net. In the 82nd minute, Neff won a header that spilled toward the goal, allowing Sophie Sivulich to score on a 30-yard shot past TCU keeper Olivia Geller.
BYU head coach Jennifer Rockwood noted that Neff's ability to win headers and her skill in wide positions has been a significant asset. Rockwood also credited the team's defensive energy for disrupting TCU's possession-based style of play.
The match featured several significant moments, including a 34th-minute goal by TCU's Emma Yolinsky that was overturned following a video review for offside. BYU dominated the first half with a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal, though several attempts by Mia Goettsche and Bella Woods did not result in goals.
Goalkeeper Chelsea Peterson earned the shutout for BYU, recording three saves, including a critical stop in the 85th minute. BYU finished the match with a 15-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Anna Neff is part of a group of freshmen who enrolled at BYU in January to begin training early for the season. She also has the opportunity to play alongside her sister, senior defender Emma Neff.
BYU (6-2-2 overall, 2-0-1 Big 12) concludes its three-match home stand on Friday by hosting Kansas State. TCU (4-4-1, 1-2-0) returns home to Fort Worth to face Cincinnati on Friday.
