Millcreek City is considering a grant of up to $5,000 for the Millcreek City 9/11 Day of Service, according to a July 21 report by Bonneville Research. The proposed funding is intended to support the purchase of diapers, wipes, and other related items for new mom kits to assist families in the community.
The study was conducted to comply with Utah Code Section 10-8-2, which requires a rigorous review and approval process before a municipality can provide grants to nonprofit organizations. This process involves a study to ensure appropriations are necessary and appropriate to accomplish City goals, such as enhancing the safety, health, prosperity, or convenience of residents.
Under the Millcreek Code of Ordinances, the City may appropriate funds or resources in accordance with state law. The proposed appropriation aims to enhance the well-being of inhabitants in areas including economic development, job creation, and job preservation.
Millcreek City planned to collect donations in August with the goal of creating a meaningful difference during the 9/11 Day of Service in September.
The analysis was performed by Robert Springmeyer, Principal of Bonneville Research. The report concludes that the appropriations are necessary to accomplish public purposes for the Millcreek municipality and that the City will receive adequate benefit in return for the appropriated resources.
