A string of fatal vehicle collisions across Utah has claimed several lives over the past month, including a motorcyclist killed in an intersection crash in Cottonwood Heights on Friday and multiple riders involved in high-impact accidents in Herriman, Ogden, and Kanab.
Fatal Motorcycle Collisions Across Utah Cities
A motorcyclist died Friday afternoon following a collision at the intersection of Millrock Drive and 6200 South in Cottonwood Heights. A spokesperson confirmed the rider collided with a car at approximately 1:45 p.m.
Similar fatal incidents involving motorcycles occurred throughout the region recently. In Ogden, the Ogden City Police Department responded to a crash near Washington Boulevard that resulted in one fatality. The victim, identified as 68-year-old Robert Bow, was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound at the time of the accident.
Identified Victims and Semi-Truck Collisions
In Herriman, authorities identified the victim of a June 8 crash involving a semi-truck as 41-year-old Salvador E. Garcia Cortez. The collision occurred on 12600 S, where the motorcycle and the semi-truck were both traveling west at approximately 6:41 a.m.
A separate fatal accident involving a motorcycle was reported in Kanab. Joseph Johnston, 45, of Gloucester, Massachusetts, was killed when his Yamaha motorcycle collided with a tour bus while traveling northbound on US-89.
Interstate and Law Enforcement Involved Crashes
Other recent roadway incidents have caused significant injuries and road closures. In South Salt Lake, a motorcyclist was killed and a driver was injured after colliding with a Mazda CX-9 near 3300 South and 200 East. The crash forced several hours of road closures.
In Draper, the Utah Department of Transportation reported that a motorcyclist was hospitalized in critical condition following a crash on Interstate 15. Additionally, a motorcyclist was injured in Santa Clara-Ivins after colliding with an officer from the Santa Clara-Ivins Police Department who was backing out of a parking stall.
Additional Fatalities and Property Damage
The recent period of traffic fatalities also includes several non-motorcycle vehicle accidents. In Washington City, a woman was killed in a two-car collision on I-15 near Main Street involving an F-350 pickup truck that was pulling a boat. This occurred on a Tuesday morning just after 10:45 a.m.
A different incident in Salt Lake City saw a car crash into Getout Games following a three-vehicle collision, according to police reports. In Southern Utah, a man in his 70s died after being struck by a vehicle in a grocery store parking lot in Cedar City.
Regional Traffic Incidents
Beyond Utah, regional reports noted a fiery four-car crash involving an RV near Mesquite that killed one person. In Idaho, the Idaho State Police reported that a 65-year-old man from Pocatello died after losing control of his motorcycle near Craters of the Moon in Butte County.
