The Lehi High School girls soccer team opened their fall campaign with two decisive wins and one narrow overtime loss, according to a report published August 9 by the Lehi Free Press.
On August 4, the Pioneers secured a 5-1 victory on the road against the defending 5A champions, Bountiful. Lehi established a 3-0 lead by halftime and maintained control throughout the second period. Goals were scored by Presley Shippen, Tessa Richards, Kajsa Sherman, Lillie Watson, and Chloe Fritch. Coach Jonas Hartmann noted that the team found their composure after Bountiful applied early pressure and credited the team for executing a game plan designed to counter Bountiful's middle. Sophomore goalkeeper Jill Farnes played in the match, conceding only one goal in the final minutes.
The Pioneers faced Riverton on August 6, resulting in a 2-1 overtime loss for Lehi. Sophomore forward Eiley Baker scored the first goal of the match following an assist from Presley Shippen, giving Lehi an early advantage that held through the first half. However, Coach Hartmann stated that the team allowed Riverton to tie the game in the second half. The game concluded in double overtime after a cleared ball was intercepted by a Riverton player. Jill Farnes served as the goalkeeper during the contest.
Lehi responded on August 7 with a 7-0 victory over Orem. While the first period remained close with a 1-0 margin, the Pioneers scored six additional goals in the second half. The scoring included two goals each from Lillie Watson and Tessa Richards, one goal each from Badger and Kaya Lotaki, and one goal from Emeri Thatcher. The team achieved several goals from distance and one from a corner kick. Sadie Bayless and Jill Farnes combined for a shutout in the net.
