The Downtown Farmers Market was established in 1992 by the Downtown Alliance. The initiative was originally designed to introduce positive activities to Pioneer Park, a 10-acre green space that was previously noted for criminal activities. Since the market's inception, the neighborhood and the local food movement have seen significant growth. The market program has expanded to include both summer and winter seasons, operating on nearly 50 days each year throughout the Pioneer Park neighborhood.
Summer Market Operations
The summer market season is held at Pioneer Park, located at 350 S 300 W in Salt Lake City. The summer sessions run from June 6 through October 24, with hours from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Due to planned renovations at Pioneer Park, which are scheduled to continue through October 2026, market staff utilizes a specific site map and operations plan for the 2026 season.
Summer Transportation and Parking
During summer market hours, northbound traffic on 400 West is closed to motorists, and drivers are advised to seek alternate routes. Parking options for the summer market include two-hour metered street parking at a rate of $3.50 per hour, payable via the ParkSLC app or at nearby pay stations. The Gateway offers one hour of free parking, followed by a $2 hourly fee. Additionally, GREENBike stations are available, with a docking station located on the street island in front of Caputo’s. Winter Parking and Access
Parking for the winter market is available at The Leonardo's underground facility, accessible from westbound 500 S or eastbound 400 S between 200 and 300 E. Visitors can take their ticket to the Salt Lake Public Library to receive validation for up to two hours of free parking; after that, the rate is $1.50 per half hour. Payment for this facility is accepted via credit or debit card only. Saturday street parking has a 4-hour limit and costs $3.50 per hour.
