Commemorating the Fallen
The scheduled commemorations aim to honor the nearly 3,000 people killed during the coordinated terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, which included 412 first responders. The City of St. George has organized the multi-day event to foster community solidarity, a sentiment the city says was shared by the United States in the weeks and months following the 2001 attacks.
Patriotic Program Details
The central patriotic program is scheduled for Sept. 11, 2026, at 6 p.m. at Historic Town Square. According to the City of St. George, the program will begin at the tower and feature a bell tribute performed by the St. George Fire Department. The event will also include guest speakers and children's choirs.
For families attending the program, the city has arranged for various kids' activities, including patriotic face painting. Following the main program, a flag retirement ceremony is scheduled for approximately 6:50 p.m. on the Town Square lawn. This ceremony will be conducted by the Sons of the American Revolution and United We Pledge.
Field of Heroes Display
A visual tribute known as the Field of Heroes will be hosted on the Town Square lawn. This display of American flags, which represents the first responders who perished on 9/11, will run from the afternoon of Sept. 8 through the morning of Sept. 12.
Memorial Stair Climb
The St. George Firefighter's Association will also host its annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Sept. 11, 2026. Scheduled from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the stairs at Tech Ridge, the challenge is designed to honor the 343 New York City firefighters and all victims of the attacks.
Participants in the climb can complete between one and five laps. The St. George Firefighter's Association noted that the event is intended as a moment of reflection and an opportunity to stand in solidarity with those who serve, emphasizing that the activity is about remembrance and community strength rather than speed. Registration is required for those wishing to participate in the climb.
