The City of St. George has scheduled a series of events to observe Patriot Day: Remembering 9/11 at Historic Town Square. The commemorations aim to evoke a sense of togetherness following the coordinated terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, which killed nearly 3,000 people, including 412 first responders.
The patriotic program was scheduled for September 11 at 6 p.m. at Historic Town Square. This program, which begins at the tower, features a bell tribute from the St. George Fire Department, guest speakers, children's choirs, and kids activities such as patriotic face painting.
A flag retirement ceremony, conducted by the Sons of the American Revolution and United We Pledge, was scheduled to take place on the Town Square lawn immediately following the patriotic program at approximately 6:50 p.m. Additionally, a Field of Heroes display consisting of American flags representing first responders who perished on 9/11 was scheduled to be held on the Town Square lawn from the afternoon of September 8 to the morning of September 12.
The St. George Firefighter's Association was scheduled to hold its annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on September 11 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the stairs at Tech Ridge. The climb, which ranges from one to five laps, is intended to honor the 343 New York City firefighters and all victims of the September 11 attacks. Registration is required for the event.
The Patriot Day event is a City of St. George event supported by various community sponsors. These include Swenson & Shelley Injury Attorneys, United We Pledge, The Advenire, American Legion Post 142, Dixie High School Air Force JROTC, Barney McKenna Olmstead, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Exchange Club of St. George, and the Sons of the American Revolution.
