The Southern Utah Museum of Art is hosting an exhibition titled Art from Abstract to Zion to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the museum and the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts. The exhibition showcases the museum's permanent collection, featuring acquisitions and gifts from the last decade alongside works previously held in storage.
The collection featured in the exhibition ranges from works by Marc Chagall and Maynard Dixon to Japanese woodblock prints and contemporary photography. The exhibition also includes the Jimmie Jones Olfactory Project, which honors artist Jimmie Jones. This project involves specially commissioned olfactory artworks by scent-artist Cathleen Faubert, designed to create a multisensory experience by connecting scents to iconic landscapes painted by Jones, such as Zion National Park, Rockville Mesa, the Grand Canyon, and Cedar Mountain.
Curated by Dr. Rebecca Bloom, Director of Curatorial Affairs, the exhibition received funding from the Utah Division of Arts and Museums, Iron County, the Grace A. Tanner Center for Human Values, and Cedar City RAP. Additionally, the museum's summer programming includes exhibitions recognizing the founding of The Beverley Center and the 65th anniversary of the Utah Shakespeare Festival.
