The Hyde Park Youth City Council is preparing to kick off its new season this summer, inviting students in grades 8 through 12 to participate. Seventh graders are also eligible to join provided they have a parent advisor.
Program goals and mission
The program aims to empower the next generation of leaders to build a more vibrant Hyde Park through service, leadership, friendship, and fun.
Annual community events and activities
Council members participate in various community activities, including planning and running events such as Hometown Days, which features parades and carnival booths. Other annual activities include the Spook Alley event, a Back-to-School Water Slide, a Christmas Festival, and an Easter Egg Hunt.
Cost and Good Neighbor Award
Participation in the council is free of charge. The organization also provides opportunities for community members to nominate neighbors for the Good Neighbor Award. Each month, the Youth Council selects a winner from community nominations to receive a gift basket and a yard sign.
Seeking advisors and award nominations
The Hyde Park City administration is also seeking parent advisors to support the council's efforts. Residents can submit nominations for the Good Neighbor Award by emailing a write-up to HPGoodNeighbor@gmail.com.
