The Moab City Police Department arrested a man with a nationwide warrant from California on Tuesday, according to a September 2 statement. Chamkaur Singh, 30, was taken into custody following a traffic stop in Moab.
An officer conducting speed enforcement near 500 W. Highway 191 observed a commercial semi truck traveling 50 MPH in a 30 MPH zone at approximately 2 p.m. The driver was identified as Singh through his California commercial driver’s license. A records check revealed a nationwide fugitive warrant for homicide-vehicular homicide manslaughter, issued April 4 by the California Highway Patrol with no bail set.
Upon contacting the California Highway Patrol, investigators confirmed that the detained man matched the suspect's photograph. Officers stated that the incident that led to the warrant involved four deaths and a firearm, though specific details regarding the firearm were not known. Singh was arrested without incident and booked into the Grand County jail. He was also issued a citation for speeding, and the semi-truck was impounded.
The Moab Police Department noted the arrest serves as a reminder of the dangers and unpredictability of traffic stops.
