Spring City officials reported on September 1 that the Black Canyon Fire has reached 95 percent containment, covering 3,264 acres. According to the report, Spring City Canyon Road and Skyline Drive have reopened, and the tent camp used for firefighter housing has been removed from Spring City Square.
Mayor Paul Penrod expressed gratitude to residents for the hospitality shown to firefighters during a recent spike camp. He noted that many citizens provided homemade baked goods and ice cream for the crews. Due to low spring levels and wells running full time, the Mayor requested that residents continue practicing water conservation for both culinary and pressurized irrigation use.
The city expects over 100 artists to visit Spring City during Labor Day weekend. Other community activities include a Citizen Corps class on September 10 regarding drought and El Nino, a presentation by David Allan on the Constitution on September 17, and a first aid class focused on burn treatment on September 24.
The Daughters of Utah Pioneers Canal Creek Camp will hold its first meeting of the year on Monday, September 14, at 11:00 a.m. in the Community Center ballroom. The meeting will include lessons on the Las Vegas Fort and pioneer history.
The Planning & Zoning Commission met on August 26, approving two subdivisions and discussing the city's General Plan. Three engineering companies have submitted plans to assist in writing the new General Plan.
