Utah has revoked the license for the Springly campus of Provo Canyon School after state investigators documented several violations. The Utah Department of Health and Human Services stated that the facility failed to provide necessary health and safety services for its clients.
The revocation took effect on Monday, with the state ordering all services at the Springville campus to end by August 6. The school has a period of 15 days to request a hearing regarding the decision.
According to the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, the school committed multiple licensing violations dating back to 2025. These findings included failures to maintain appropriate staffing levels, the use of unnecessary restraints and aggressive physical contact, neglect of client care, and a failure to properly complete employee background checks.
Earlier this year, the state imposed emergency restrictions on the facility after a student suffered serious injuries and did not receive immediate medical care. This followed an incident in May 2026 where officials alleged a client was assaulted and left unconscious, with staff failing to seek immediate medical attention.
The license revocation follows years of advocacy from media personality Paris Hilton, who described experiencing emotional, physical, and psychological abuse at the school as a teenager in the late 1990s. In a statement, Hilton said the state decision confirmed what survivors have known for decades and validated that the school failed the children in its care.
While the Springville campus is under new ownership, school administrators previously stated they could not comment on allegations occurring prior to the change in ownership. Recent legal actions also include lawsuits filed by two families alleging mistreatment of children at the Springville campus.
