Creekside Elementary has scheduled its Back to School Open House for Aug. 19, between 3:00 and 4:30 p.m., as the school prepares to welcome students for the 2026-2027 academic year. The event follows a summer season of community engagement and reading programs at the school, which began earlier this year with various initiatives including a summer reading program and specialized educational partnerships.
The upcoming open house serves as a primary event for families transitioning from summer activities back to formal instruction. This follows a period of significant school achievement and recognition throughout the 2025-2026 term. For instance, on May 8, 2026, Mrs. Horsley was honored after receiving the Davis School District DAESP Award for School Improvement Leader for the 2025-2026 school year.
In addition to academic recognition, the school has focused on student wellness and community support. On April 15, 2026, the school hosted an event designed to help military students feel a sense of belonging and inclusion. The school also participated in broader district-wide initiatives, such as the Speak for America’s 250th Anniversary program, which invited students to apply to participate in commemorations of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The Davis School District has implemented several early childhood and enrollment initiatives to support families entering the new school year. On June 1, 2026, the district announced a partnership with Waterford Upstart to provide PreK children with an on-demand early learning program. This program provides parents with tools, coaching, and resources to support early development.
Enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year has been a multi-step process for many families. The district opened 2026-2027 preschool enrollment on Feb. 23, 2026, and offered Dual Language Immersion (DLI) applications for current kindergarten families on Feb. 3, 2026. Priority registration for kindergarten was also made available to ensure families could secure spots for the upcoming year.
Student engagement and extracurricular successes characterized the previous academic cycle. On March 16, 2026, the Scorching Scorpions earned a place in the VEX State Championship finals and received the innovation award, which includes an invitation to the World Championship. The school also hosted a performance of Finding Nemo Jr. on March 17, 2026, with showings held on Wednesdays through Saturdays and a matinee on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
The school's library also remained active during the summer months. A summer reading program was established with the library remaining open on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The summer library session concluded with a Read-a-thon held on Aug. 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The academic year's commencement follows a period of community-wide service and engagement. In late 2025, the student council conducted a cereal box food drive to support the community, which ran from Nov. 4, 2025, through Dec. 3, 2025.
Earlier in the year, on Jan. 16, 2026, the community was encouraged to participate in the Best of Davis nominations to honor outstanding educators and support staff. The district also maintained transparency through engagement nights, such as the School Board & Parent Engagement Night held on Jan. 26, 2026, at Farmington High School.
As the 2026-2027 school year begins, the district continues to focus on mental health and leadership recognition. On March 11, 2026, Davis HELPS and community partners hosted a free mental health screening for youth in grades 6-12.
Leadership within the district remains a central focus, with specific weeks dedicated to recognizing assistant principals and principals. On May 1, 2026, the district highlighted the role of school principals in supporting students, staff, and families, while Assistant Principals Week was observed on April 7, 2026, to recognize the support provided to school communities.
