Provo High Athletics Information Night: What Students and Families Need to Know
At Provo High Athletics Information Night, we shared important information about athletic eligibility requirements, participation expectations, fees, and resources available to student-athletes. Our goal is to support students as they succeed both in the classroom and in athletics. Below is an overview of the key information and reminders shared during the presentation.
PE Graduation Requirements
Students must complete four PE-related graduation requirements:
PE Participation Skills & Techniques
Health II
Fitness for Life
One PE elective
Note: Families should note that Health and Fitness for Life cannot be substituted. Students may also earn up to 1.0 PE credit through sports participation.
Sports Conditioning Classes
Some athletic programs require students to enroll in a sports conditioning class during school hours. Current programs include:
Boys and Girls Basketball
Girls Volleyball
Girls Soccer
Baseball
Cheerleading
Softball
Swimming (Aerobic Jogging Class 1B)
Football (Weights Class)
Cross Country (Aerobic Jogging Class 1B)
Track and Field (limited by event)
These classes are designed to support athletic development and preparation for competition.
Student Success Class
Provo High also offers a Student Success class designed to help student-athletes balance academics and athletics. The course provides structure, support, and academic resources to help students succeed in the classroom while participating in sports.
Additional details include:
CE credit is available when taking the course with Mr. Hernandez
Students must enroll for the full semester
Coaches may recommend enrollment after a sports season ends for athletes participating in conditioning classes
The school emphasized its commitment to helping student-athletes excel both academically and in their sport.
Register My Athlete
All student-athletes must complete registration before participating on a school team. Families can use one account for the entire household through the Register My Athlete system.
Participation requirements include:
Current physical examination
Academic eligibility
Completed registration paperwork
UHSAA Eligibility Requirements
UHSAA Eligibility
To remain eligible for athletics through the Utah High School Activities Association, students must:
Maintain at least a 2.0 GPA during the previous grading period
Not fail more than one class
Families should also remember that an incomplete grade counts as an “F” until the work is completed.
NCAA Eligibility Information
Students interested in playing college athletics should be aware that NCAA eligibility requirements are the responsibility of both the student and their family.
Families are encouraged to review information from the NCAA Eligibility Center for guidance on academic and athletic requirements for college sports participation.
Conduct and Participation Expectations
The presentation also reviewed student conduct expectations and referenced Policy No. 3510 regarding student activities and discrimination policies.
Athletic Fees and Financial Information
Athletic participation includes extracurricular fees that help support team programs, travel, and player packs.
Key reminders for families:
Students will not receive player packs until fees are paid.
Trip fees must be paid before participation unless a payment plan has been arranged.
Families can work with school administration to create payment plans if needed.
Additional financial information shared during the meeting included:
Fee waivers may cover the cost of up to two trips
If the student is participating in more than 2 trips, the family is responsible for covering the cost of any additional trips up to $2,000 for the program.
If the student is participating in more than 2 programs, the family is responsible for covering the cost of any additional trips up to $5,000 for the multiple programs.
Fundraising opportunities will be available to help offset program expenses
Coaches will provide additional fundraiser information specific to each sport.
