South Jordan has approved a new Parks Fee as part of the Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget to provide dedicated funding for park maintenance, operations, and future improvements. The City Council approved the measure to support community assets including neighborhood playgrounds, trails, splash pads, ball fields, and the cemetery.
The new fee will be added to utility bills received at the end of July, appearing alongside services such as water, garbage, and recycling. For single-family homes, the fee is $5.28 per month, which amounts to approximately $63 per year. Multi-family residences will be charged $3.38 per month.
Funding from this fee is dedicated exclusively to parks, trails, open space, and the cemetery. The city stated that the funds will not be used for employee wages or any other city services. Instead, the revenue will support park operations and maintenance, capital improvement projects, and cemetery operations.
These funds will help maintain and improve various amenities such as neighborhood parks, athletic fields, splash pads, trails, open spaces, and trees. The fee also aims to fund future investments identified in the City’s Parks Master Plan, including playground replacements and other capital projects intended to extend the life and value of community assets.
The implementation of this dedicated fee responds to priorities identified through resident surveys and the Parks Master Plan, which show that parks are highly valued by South Jordan residents. As the city continues to grow, the dedicated funding source is intended to help ensure parks and recreational spaces remain safe, attractive, and functional to meet increasing demand.
