The Town of Brighton Planning Commission held a meeting on July 15, 2026, to conduct business regarding leadership elections and municipal code amendments, according to meeting minutes approved on August 19, 2026.
During the meeting, the commission unanimously elected Commissioner Despain as Chair for 2026 and Commissioner Ward as Vice Chair for 2026. The commission also approved the minutes from the April 15, 2026, meeting.
Commissioners discussed a resolution to amend Brighton's land use fee schedule. Following a discussion regarding construction without permits, inspections, and the definition of special events and short-term rentals, the commission voted unanimously to recommend the resolution to the Town of Brighton Council for approval, with the stipulation that staff clarify discussed terms while keeping fees the same.
The commission also addressed an amendment to Section 9.90.025 of the Brighton Municipal Code to adopt the 2024 Edition of the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code, following Utah H.B. 41 from the 2026 General Legislative Session.
After discussing the state adoption of the code, the commission voted unanimously to continue the consideration of this file to the August 19, 2026, meeting. This allows staff time to provide the appendices referenced in the state mandate and advise on concerns.
The meeting, which was conducted by Commissioner Despain, lasted approximately one hour and three minutes and was attended by two members of the public.
