The Ogden Valley City Council voted 4-1 to adopt Resolution 2026-44 during a special meeting on July 30, 2026, officially settling the municipality's name as Ogden Valley City. The decision followed public comments regarding whether the city should adopt the name Eden or another designation.
During the meeting, several residents provided public comments regarding the city's name. Some community members expressed support for the name Eden or Eden Valley, while others argued that Ogden Valley is a historical designation that represents the entire valley and prevents confusion for first responders. One resident suggested the name Valley, Utah, while another proposed that the city name should not include the word City to preserve a rural character.
In discussing the resolution to settle the city name, council members expressed varying perspectives. Council member Dooling-Baker noted that four of five districts selected Eden in a previous survey. However, council member Shaw argued for retaining Ogden Valley to preserve the area's long history and avoid the costs of a name change. Council member Hickman stated that Eden is not a unifying name and noted that District 5, the largest and most rural district, did not select Eden as its top choice. The council ultimately voted to retain Ogden Valley City as the legal name, noting it can be referred to simply as Ogden Valley.
The council also passed Resolution 2026-45 with a 4-2 vote, authorizing the preparation of ordinances and personnel materials according to a new organizational chart. This structure aims to organize services into groups including shared services, community development, and community services. Additionally, the council voted 5-0 to adopt Resolution 2026-46, which establishes the municipality's official vision statement.
The meeting also included updates on the city budget and litigation. The Mayor noted that the city is challenging the state tax commission regarding participation in Truth-in-Taxation. A Planning Commission hearing regarding Shoreline zone changes was scheduled for August 25.
