Millcreek Common will host its 4th Annual Pacific Islander Skate Night on Saturday, Aug. 8, to celebrate Utah Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The free event, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., aims to showcase the rich cultures, traditions, and music of Utah's Pacific Islander community through skating and live entertainment.
Cultural and Musical Highlights
The celebration, held at 1354 E. Chambers Ave. in Millcreek, will feature a variety of cultural and musical attractions. According to Millcreek Common, the evening includes a live performance by Liahona, an artist who appeared as a Top 24 contestant on American Idol. Musical entertainment will also be provided by DJ Fuidawg and host Big Buddah.
In addition to musical acts, the event will feature cultural performances by the Malialole Dance Group. Attendees can also participate in skate demonstrations and interactive activities led by the Skate Loop Legends. The event is designed to be family-friendly and is open to both experienced skaters and those stepping onto the rink for the first time.
Sponsorship and Community Support
Millcreek Common confirmed the event is free to the public. To support the festivities, several local organizations have provided sponsorship and resources. Granite Credit Union is sponsoring free skate rentals for the first 1,000 guests. Additionally, Millcreek Pizza House will provide free pizza to the first 50 guests who arrive through the gate at 6 p.m.
Other sponsors contributing to the event include Zumiez and Granite Credit Union. The celebration is intended to serve as a community-building opportunity, offering family-friendly games, various activities, and community booths for attendees to explore.
