The Cedar City Arts Council launched its summer season of Final Friday Art Walks on June 26, featuring a variety of local artists, live music performances, and a special anniversary celebration at the Southern Utah Museum of Art.
Summer Art Walk Season Begins
The summer series of Final Friday Art Walks returned to downtown Cedar City on June 26, providing a free, family-friendly event for the community to engage with visual arts and live music. The event allowed visitors to stroll through various galleries and venues across several downtown locations to view the work of local creators.
Artist Participation and Venues
According to a press release from the Cedar City Arts Council, the June 26 event included artist demonstrations and opportunities for local creators to showcase their work. Artists were permitted to set up family-friendly display tables at the corner of 100 West University Blvd, also known as Center Street, starting at 4:30 PM. The council noted that there was no vendor fee for participating artists during this event.
Live Musical Performances
Musical performances were a central component of the June 26 festivities, with live music hosted at multiple downtown sites including The Green, Artisense, Stone Path, and the IG Winery. The lineup of performers featured diverse genres, such as folk music provided by Coyote Bluegrass, alongside appearances by the Southern Utah Handbell Choir and a brass quintet.
Decade Anniversary Celebration
The June event also served as a milestone for local cultural institutions, marking the tenth-anniversary celebration for both the Utah Shakespeare Festival and the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts, which is located at the Southern Utah Museum of Art (SUMA). This anniversary celebration included additional activities and performances held specifically at the SUMA venue.
Upcoming Event Schedule
While the June event has concluded, the Cedar City Arts Council has scheduled additional Final Friday Art Walks for the remainder of the summer and early autumn. Community members can attend upcoming walks on July 31, August 28, and September 25.
