Arizona State quarterback Mikey Keene is considered questionable for the upcoming game against No. 8 BYU, according to a October 26 report.
Head coach Kenny Dillingham stated Monday that Keene's status for the matchup depends on his performance during practice on Tuesday, October 27.
Keene suffered an apparent injury late in the first half on Saturday when Kansas State linebacker Darien Whitaker rolled into his legs. The quarterback was observed on the sideline during the second half wearing a brace on his right knee.
Dillingham described Keene as a tough competitor and a fighter who will likely want to be on the field. The head coach noted that while Keene is not doubtful, he is considered questionable as of Monday, October 26.
If Keene is unable to play, freshman Jake Fette is anticipated to start the game. Fette previously entered the game against an FBS opponent to replace Cutter Boley, who had relieved Keene after the offense struggled to produce under Boley's leadership.
During that appearance, Fette completed 3 of 6 passes for 45 yards and helped lead the Sun Devils to a 28-14 victory. The win was supported by four touchdowns from freshman running back Cardae Mack.
Keene, a Chandler High School product, has completed 63.9% of his passes across five quarters played in three games this season. His season totals include 448 passing yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.
In the game on Saturday, Keene recorded 160 passing yards on 19 attempts with 10 completions, which included a 51-yard pass to Reed Harris on the first offensive play.
