BYU stars LJ Martin and Evan Johnson have been officially ruled out for the game against Arizona State, according to an October 29 report.
Trevin Ostler was also ruled out after suffering what appeared to be a serious injury against UCF while starting at right guard. Kyle Sfarcioc, who was also recovering from an injury, is listed as probable against ASU.
Running back Preston Rex is also considered probable for the matchup against ASU. Rex recorded only five carries against the Knights following a breakout performance against Notre Dame one week earlier.
There is hope that Martin will return for the game against Utah next week.
Arizona State is also facing injury concerns ahead of the matchup. Starting offensive lineman Tana Alo-Tupuola has been ruled out for the Sun Devils.
Quarterback Mikey Keene and starting safety Lyrik Rawls are both listed as questionable. Keene is designated with a 50% chance to play after leaving a game against Kansas State with an injury.
ASU has utilized multiple quarterbacks this season. After Cutter Boley was benched following two interceptions in 10 attempts against Texas Tech, the Sun Devils turned to veteran Mikey Keene. Keene threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns in that appearance.
If Keene is unable to play, true freshman Jake Fette may see action. Fette has eight career pass attempts and previously led ASU to a win over Kansas State. Fette has been sacked twice in 11 dropbacks this season.
The BYU defense may have an advantage against the Arizona State quarterback position. Keene has been sacked five times in the last two games, and Fette has struggled to escape pressure.
The BYU game is scheduled for Saturday.
