Herriman police arrested a Jordan School District bus driver on Wednesday morning after family members reported he allegedly used a cell phone to record a 10-year-old girl while driving her on a bus, according to a October 28 report from Gephardt Daily.
Gabriele Basile, 64, was booked into jail on two counts of voyeurism, recording against a child under 14, which is a third-degree felony, and a class C misdemeanor for using a wireless device while operating a vehicle. Arrest documents indicate that the incident occurred on Oct. 8, 2026, and the video was reportedly stored in a Google account shared with another relative.
According to arrest documents, Basile allegedly turned his camera toward the child while driving a bus full of children, though the girl did not appear to notice. A relative reported that Basile cleared his phone after being confronted about the video and allegedly stated he would report himself to the school and resign. When he did not notify the school, his relatives contacted police.
A search warrant was executed for Basile's residence and devices, during which the video of the child was allegedly found on his phone, along with another video of the same child in a deleted file. Basile, who was ordered held without bail, had reportedly told family members that if he ever faced legal trouble, he would fly to Italy to live with his mother.
