Ivan Joseph Atkinson, 58, passed away on August 16, 2026, at the Rocky Mountain Care Center in Logan, Utah, according to a report from Webb Funeral Home published August 21.
Born on February 7, 1968, in Williston, North Dakota, Atkinson was adopted in 1978 by Sherwin and Elva Atkinson of Dayton, Idaho. He was adopted alongside his sister, Linda. The family was later sealed together in the Ogden, Utah temple.
Atkinson was a graduate of West Side High School, where he served as the waterboy for the men's football and basketball teams. His interests included swimming, skiing, drawing, playing the piano, clogging, and participating in the Boy Scouts of America program.
His professional life included working in various casinos in Nevada and coastal Oregon, where he held responsibility for the keno area. He also worked for the Columbia clothing company, rented beach bikes, and served as a groundskeeper at Salishan Golf Links.
Atkinson was described as having a great sense of humor and a deep spiritual connection with Christ. He was known for his habit of checking in on friends and family members.
Atkinson is survived by his sisters, Linda Norris and Diane Malmquist. He was preceded in death by his companion, Ginny Squires, and his parents, Sherwin and Elva Atkinson.
Services included a viewing at Webb Funeral Home on August 22, 2026, and a graveside service at the Dayton Idaho Cemetery on August 22, 2026.
