Nebo School District rallied around the theme Be That Friend as a new school year began. Superintendent Rick Nielsen joined Lindsey Hughes and Seth Sorenson to discuss the meaning of the theme within schools and communities.
The theme was inspired in part by Dr. Kyle Reyes’ Lenses of Humanity, focusing on connection, reflection, and empathy. Rick Nielsen stated that being that friend does not require being someone's best friend, but rather recognizing what someone needs in a specific moment and choosing to show up.
Examples of this theme include teachers who give students a reason to attend school, coworkers who notice when someone is struggling, and educators who reassure parents on the first day of kindergarten.
As more than 5,000 Nebo employees welcomed students back to school, Nielsen expressed gratitude for the families who entrust educators with their children. He also shared appreciation for people throughout Nebo who serve the community each day.
