Loila Rae Anderson, age 100, died on September 6, 2026, due to complications related to age, according to a September 10 report from the Logan Herald Journal. At the time of her death, she was a resident of the Highland Glen Care Center in Highland, Utah.
Born on January 12, 1926, to Walter Angus Funk and Sarah Loila Reese Funk, Anderson was raised in Benson, Cache County. Her family members were among the early pioneer settlers of Cache Valley.
Anderson graduated from the College of Education at Utah State Agricultural College in 1948 and worked as an elementary school teacher in Millville, Mendon, and California. She also taught at the Wilson School in Logan for ten years.
In 1948, she married Desmond Launfal Anderson, a former student body president at Utah State. Desmond served as the Mayor of Logan before his death in 2010. The couple lived in Altadena, California, during his tenure on the faculty at the University of Southern California, before returning to Logan in 1968.
Anderson was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in roles including Pasadena Stake Primary President, Mount Logan Stake Relief Society President, and in the Logan Temple.
She is survived by her children: Douglas Anderson and Katherine Wirthlin Cannon Anderson, Rae Louise Theurer and Steve Theurer, Mondell Anderson and June Harris Anderson, Janis Russell and Steve Russell, and Julie Merrill Anderson, the widow of Lyle Funk Anderson. She also leaves behind 29 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and one great/great-grandson.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at the LDS church located at 94 West 600 South in Logan. A viewing will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by the funeral at 12:00 p.m. Interment will occur at the Logan Cemetery.
