Calendar and Policy Updates
The adoption of the 2027-2028 school calendar and an amended 2026-2027 calendar occurred during the board's regular meeting on Aug. 25, 2026. This action was part of a broader series of administrative updates, including the adoption of an amended meeting schedule and the approval of the TSSA Framework.
Legislative Flexibility
The shift toward a shorter week is supported by Utah Code, which became effective on July 1, 2026. Under the law, a local education agency governing board may reallocate up to 32 instructional hours or four instructional days from the established schedule for teacher preparation or professional development.
To approve such a reallocation, the law requires a two-thirds vote from the members of the local education agency governing board during a regularly scheduled meeting where a quorum is present.
Program and Financial Review
The board's August 25 meeting also addressed various personnel and financial items. The board reviewed the results of the concurrent enrollment program, noting that 954 students participated in the program with 3,443 course enrollments, resulting in 7,822 earned credits and $2,205,804 in tuition savings.
Previous Deliberations
Prior to the August meetings, the board held a work meeting on Aug. 18, 2026, to discuss items including the 2026-2027 school calendar adjustment and various school improvement plans. These presentations included updates from Parowan High School, Canyon View Middle School, and Fiddlers Elementary, among others.
