September 14th, 2026 Pioneer Hall Memories: A 1993 Wedding Flashback
When we started talking about Pioneer Hall history, so did you!
Here’s what one of our residents had to share:
Elaine Boswell and Michael Perry walked down the aisle in Pioneer Hall on April 24, 1993.
The couple had seen Pioneer Hall from the road many times before they tied the knot.
“We had just bought a house in West Jordan a month before we got married,” Elaine said. “We lived in Sugarhouse and we would come down 7800 South all the time going back and forth. ‘Oh, that building is just so cool.’”
They decided to make the Hall part of their story permanently and paid the $35 fee to rent it for half a day.
At that time, there were wooden benches along the sides of the hall. You can see wallpaper, drapes and different lighting sconces that show a different style than we have today.
“It was a beautiful building,” Elaine said. “We didn’t do a lot of decoration because we liked it simple.”
Her father-in-law decorated with flowers, and she walked in from the east doors down the aisle to her fiancé.
“We had a justice of the peace that was a little long-winded. He made a couple of comments about staying together but at the same time, ‘Hope this thing works out.’ We looked at each other like ‘What are you saying?’ He just wanted to talk and talk and talk.”
After the ceremony, her mother-in-law and sister made dinner, while the guests rearranged tables and chairs. The couple enjoyed the evening with 100 family and friends, dancing and laughing.
We are proud to have this wonderful building continue to serve our residents for 159 years and counting!
