Utah drivers traveling during the Fourth of July weekend were advised to prepare for road closures and heavier traffic across the state. The Utah Department of Transportation stated that holiday celebrations, such as parades and fireworks shows, were expected to create congestion in various cities.
Specific road closures were identified for several communities. In West Jordan, Redwood Road was scheduled to close from 8000 South to 7000 South between 10:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday for the West Jordan Grand Parade, which also impacted 7000 South from Redwood Road to 2200 West.
In Springdale, State Route 9 between Sage Lane and Park Lane was set to close from 8:30 a.m. to noon for the Zion Canyon Independence Parade. Additionally, the Fun Days Parade in Murray was expected to impact State Street between 6400 South and 4800 South starting at 7:30 a.m.
Provo residents were notified of closures along University Avenue for the Independence Day Grand Parade, as well as heavy traffic congestion anticipated before and after the annual Stadium of Fire at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
On major routes like I-15 and U.S. Route 6, UDOT expected delays of up to 20 minutes during peak travel times, though the department noted that highways should generally see minimal congestion. To assist with holiday travel, most UDOT construction projects were set to suspend work and open all lanes where possible, though some restrictions remained, such as a work zone on US-6 in Spanish Fork Canyon. UDOT recommended that drivers check road conditions and allow for extra travel time.
