BYU basketball signs Lithuanian guard Dovydas Buika

BYU men’s basketball announced the signing of Dovydas Buika from the Lithuanian Basketball League on Wednesday morning. “We’re super excited to welcome Dovydas to the BYU family,” coach Kevin Young said in a statement. “He brings a lot of versatility to our back court with the ability to play multiple positions.”
Player Profile and LKL Stats
Buika is a 6-foot-7 guard who has spent the last two seasons in the LKL. This past season he averaged 3.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game over 21 games. His best performance came against Lietkabelis, where he shot 80% from the field and 85% from the 3-point stripe.
EuroLeague Success
He debuted with Zalgiris Kaunas in 2024 and a year later led the team to a NextGen EuroLeague title. During the title run he averaged 12.5 points per game, 4.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and scored 24 points in the opening game of the tournament.
International Championship Performance
In the FIBA U18 European Championship tournament, Buika averaged 45.8% from the field, 32.3% from behind the arc, 5.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists over seven games.
Coach's Outlook
Buika has experience playing on the world stage. “He’s got great positional size and a competitive edge to him that will fit in well with our group," Young said. "We look forward to getting him on campus and getting to work."
