Safety Week: Bike, Walk, or Run
Our focus this week is on teaching our students how to use their feet to come to school. Please plan to help your children come to school during this week using their feet, including walking, biking, or scootering. If you do not live close enough to the school to do this, please consider parking a few blocks from the school and allowing your child to travel the rest of the way using their feet so that they can learn how to use their feet safely.
Monday: Bike or Walk to School
The Golden Sneaker Trophy will be awarded to the class with the most students who bike or walk to school that day.
Tuesday: Watch a Safety Video
Watch a safety video with your parents that night. Bring back your School Safety form to be entered into the raffle.
Wednesday: Wear Crazy Socks or Mixed-Up Shoes
Remember to keep walking or biking every day!
Thursday: Learn About Bikes
Teach your parents what you learned that night. Bring back your Bike Safety form to be entered into the raffle.
Friday: Safety Assembly and Raffle
Win some great prizes to celebrate how you learned to be safe!
If your child comes to school using their feet rather than being dropped off at the front of the school all five days of the week, they will get a special Pokémon card that we have created just for this week.

Back-to-School Picnic
Mark your calendar for our back-to-school picnic! Monday, September 21st – more details to come!
Book Fair: Open During the Lakeview Picnic
There will also be shopping time available during students' library time. We will be closed on Friday, so note that Thursday is the last day we will be open.
Your support of the book fair is huge. The majority of our library budget comes from the book fair, and we are grateful for all the support we receive!
Vision Screenings on September 17
In support of our commitment to promote healthy learners, our school nurses, along with trained volunteers, will conduct school-wide distance vision screenings at Lakeview on September 17.
If your child wears glasses or contacts, please have them wear them on the day of the screening.
A child’s vision can change as they grow. Therefore, it is important that students receive regular screenings to identify those who might need to be seen by an eye care professional.
Early detection and treatment of a vision problem is critical to your child’s educational success, health, and well-being. You will be notified if your student does not pass the vision screening after the re-screening process.
Although school screenings are important, a comprehensive eye exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist is the gold standard.
If you do not want your child to participate, complete the opt-out form and return it to your child’s teacher before September 3, 2026. We look forward to ensuring every child is healthy and ready to learn.
Thank you,
Erin Hoehne

Making Our School Drop-Off and Pick-Up Safe
Since the installation of signage and a fence, we are seeing better use of crosswalks. However, we continue to struggle with traffic stopping in the pick-up lanes after school.
We have two lanes:
One lane by the curb where students exit and enter cars.
One lane for driving straight through.
Please never leave your car unattended in either lane and do not stay parked in the lanes so traffic can keep moving. If you need to wait longer than a few minutes to pick up your children, please park in the parking lot.
We are also asking students not to play games in the front while waiting to be picked up.
