The Wasatch Writers Center at Weber State University is hosting several upcoming events, including visiting writer series and open mic sessions. These programs offer opportunities to engage with various authors and songwriters.
The Wasatch Writers Series features David Wanczyk, author of Beep: Inside the Unseen World of Baseball for the Blind. Wanczyk, who teaches at Ohio University and serves as the editor of the New Ohio Review, is scheduled to appear on September 16th at 6 pm in the Hetzel-Hoellein Room of the WSU Stewart Library, Room 321.
Phil Klay, a National Book Award winner and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, is scheduled for a Browning Presents event on October 8th from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Wildcat Theater in Shepherd Union, Room 208. Klay's work, including Redeyeployment and Uncertain Ground, explores themes of war, service, and military life. An informal conversation and Q&A session was scheduled for October 8th from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in EH 215.
The Railtown Reading Writers Series is scheduled for October 6th at 7 pm at the Weber County main Library in Ogden. The event features Alberto Ríos and Sunni Wilkinson. Ríos is the Arizona poet laureate and a recent chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Wilkinson is a poet, essayist, and teacher at Weber State University who was named poet laureate of Ogden in July 2026.
The American Patchwork Quartet is scheduled to host a songwriting workshop as part of the Browning Presents/Onstage Ogden series on October 12th from 12:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Wildcat Theater. The workshop invites students to participate in the American Protest Song Challenge to write and perform songs.
Additionally, the ROAR Open Mics series includes a session scheduled for Wednesday, September 2 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm in the EH Student Lounge (226).
