Get The Scoop On CTE (Career and Technical Education) Event

On Monday, September 21st, parents and students are invited to Provo High School to explore a wide variety of exciting career pathways. The “Get the Scoop on Career and Technical Education” event will provide hands-on experiences to educate 7th-12th-grade students and their parents about pipelines to high-demand, high-skill, and high-wage Utah careers.
This collaborative regional event brings together multiple educational stakeholders to introduce “career clusters” and “pathways” to middle school and junior high students. Each area will have representation from Provo School District, UVU, and MTECH. Over 70 booths will be available for students to explore, including UVU Firefighter Academy, MTECH Diesel Tech, Provo School District UAS (drones), Life Flight, and more.
The following career clusters will be introduced:
Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering
Agriculture
Arts, Entertainment, and Design
Construction
Business Management and Entrepreneurship
Digital Technology
Education
Energy and Natural Resources
Financial Services
Health Science and Human Services
Hospitality, Events and Tourism
Marketing
Public Service and Safety
Supply Chain and Transportation
These “Career Pathways show students a direct connection between doing well in high school and being able to transition smoothly to postsecondary opportunities or getting a good job when they graduate. Students who focus on a Career Pathway acquire the skills necessary for entry into well-paid careers with high potential for rapid financial growth, increased levels of responsibility, and a high degree of personal satisfaction.” – USBE
In Utah, there are 33 pathways in 14 career clusters. CTE Pathways help lead students to college and career readiness. Career and Technical Education is hands-on learning that delivers real-world skills for students. CTE gives learners technical skills and experiences at middle schools, junior highs, and high schools across Utah. Students who focus on CTE Pathways can earn certificates and acquire essential training to prepare them for future careers, as well as two-year and four-year college degrees.
Concurrent Enrollment will also be represented at the Get The Scoop event. Utah’s “vision is to see that every student takes advantage of the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school, understanding that through advanced academic training, they will save time and money, which will enable them to quickly earn an industry license or an associate degree.” Last year, high school students in our state earned over 299,866 credentials of value and 151,328 CTE Concurrent Enrollment credits. – USBE
Over 3,000 students and family members are expected to attend this event. Students and parents will be treated to free ice cream, an introduction to new technology, prizes, and many takeaway projects. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to explore career and technical education in Utah!
