The Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah declared a state of emergency for the Kanosh Band Reservation at 4:20 a.m. on August 2, 2026. The declaration follows the onset of fire activity impacting the area.
Initially, tribal members were instructed to go to the Fillmore Stake Center, located at 25 S. 300 W. in Fillmore, UT, for immediate shelter. However, an update at 7:25 a.m. stated that the evacuation shelter is now located at the Fillmore Armory, 45 W. Center St., Meadow, UT 84644.
Additionally, the Tribal Building in Cedar City at 440 N. Paiute Drive is open for tribal members affected by the fire. Officials requested that individuals call ahead to ensure food is available.
