Regarding infrastructure, district and contractor representatives provided an update on the Timpview construction project. The renovation of the Timpview cafeteria and kitchen is nearing completion, with substantial completion expected in mid-May. While the boiler room work is finished, the next phase involves significant structural and foundation work. The district does not plan to use the new cafeteria space during the current school year to avoid disrupting lunch operations.
In transportation, the Board approved courtesy and hazardous bus routes for the upcoming year. Transportation staff noted that no new routes were added this year and most existing routes are well utilized, though one route in the Franklin area has shown lower than expected ridership.
The Board reviewed several policy items, approving policies related to student records, Family Educational Rights and Privacy compliance, married students, pregnant students, resolution of student complaints, and limitations on extra duty assignments. Other policy items, including those regarding school uniforms and student misconduct reporting, were held for future action.
A significant portion of the study session focused on dual language immersion (DLI) and its connection to enrollment patterns and school boundaries. The Board reviewed DLI enrollment and discussed the sustainability of current structures. During the business meeting, public input was provided regarding Canyon Crest, with speakers expressing concerns about teacher turnover and the impact of DLI on school identity.
The meeting also included a report from Wasatch Elementary highlighting kindergarten growth and school culture. Additionally, the Board reviewed the proposed 2026–27 school fee schedule during its first reading, with discussions focusing on maximum fees and ensuring a fee-free path to graduation. The schedule was held for further review.
