Martin Yabologovsky has been appointed as the new principal of Independence High School. In a recent episode of the podcast What’s Up With the Sup, Superintendent Wendy Dau interviewed Yablonovsky regarding his transition from Timpview High School to his new leadership position within the Provo City School District.
Yablonovsky's career in education includes nine years as a math and science teacher. His professional journey has spanned various locations, including teaching in Manokotak and Skagway, Alaska, and serving as a math teacher at Payson Middle School in the Nebo District.
His administrative experience includes six years as an assistant principal at East High School in the Salt Lake City School District, time spent as the principal of The Open Classroom charter school, and serving as a director of transportation. Most recently, he served as an assistant principal at Timpview High School for four years.
As principal of Independence High School, Yablonovsky expressed interest in exploring enhancements to Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings to better prepare students for life after high school. He noted that he intends to honor the work of previous leadership and focus on building relationships with the staff and student body.
He also highlighted his interest in utilizing the school's unique hex schedule to foster student-teacher connections, drawing inspiration from his experience with advisory classes in Washington.
Yablonovsky stated that he believes in the potential of every student and aims to act as an advocate for both students and teachers. He emphasized a commitment to collaborative efforts with parents to support student success at Independence High School.
