The Provo City School District is inviting students, families, educators, and the community to participate in ProvoREADS, a district-wide commitment to literacy. The initiative aims to ensure every child in Provo reads every day.
The ProvoREADS theme for this school year is Read Across the World. This program is designed as a year-long reading adventure where students travel through monthly themes inspired by different stages of a journey. Throughout the year, students are encouraged to establish reading habits, explore new genres, and read with their families.
Each month includes a Family Reading Challenge. For August, the theme is Pack Your Bags, which focuses on finding books that spark curiosity and establishing consistent reading routines. The challenge for this month encourages families to read in a new location, such as a park, under a tree, or in a blanket fort.
The district stated that building strong readers requires the involvement of the entire community. The initiative encourages adults to model reading behavior by reading alongside children and sharing stories to help create a culture of literacy throughout Provo.
