The City of Syracuse maintains two distinct facilities to support its emergency services: Fire Station 31, which functions as a primary administrative and tactical training hub, and Fire Station 32, a large-scale station integrated into the local park system.
Station 31 Operations and Equipment
Fire Station 31 serves as a comprehensive facility housing both administrative offices and firefighter living quarters. The station includes a six-door bay for emergency vehicles and a decontamination room to ensure safety during operations. To support physical readiness and specialized skills, the facility is equipped with a gym and an indoor/outdoor fire tactic training facility. Additional specialized areas include tool shops and storage areas dedicated to medical and fire supplies.
Personnel Living Quarters
The living areas at Fire Station 31 are designed to accommodate personnel through six dedicated firefighter bedrooms. Two of these rooms serve as specific quarters for the Captain and the Engineer and include attached office spaces and bathrooms. For communal use, the station provides a fully functional kitchen and a living area for staff.
Administrative and Command Functions
Administrative functions at Fire Station 31 are centralized within a dedicated wing. This area contains offices for the Chief and Deputy Chief, as well as offices for the Fire Marshal. The administrative suite also features a combined office for an administrative assistant and a receptionist, alongside a conference room. Additionally, the station contains a training room that serves a dual purpose as the City's Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
Specialized Training Capabilities
Advanced tactical training is a core feature of Fire Station 31. The facility includes a four-story tower specifically designed to simulate a variety of fire tactics training scenarios. This tower is complemented by specialized simulation tools, including a smoke out room, a confined space simulation forcible entry door, and rappelling hooks to prepare firefighters for complex rescue environments.
Station 32 Facility Details
Fire Station 32 offers a different footprint, situated on 3.14 acres and spanning 17,153 square feet. This facility features four apparatus bays designed for vehicle storage and deployment. Like Station 31, it also contains living quarters, training areas, and office spaces to support emergency responders.
Park Integration and Access
Fire Station 32 is notable for its integration with the surrounding natural landscape. The facility features common design elements found in buildings located within Jensen Nature Park. Furthermore, a walking path provides a direct connection between the station and nearby trails, facilitating access to the local recreational area.
City Emergency Infrastructure
Together, these two facilities provide the City of Syracuse with the necessary infrastructure for emergency command, personnel housing, and intensive tactical training.
