The ProvoREADS theme for September is Discover Your Reading Path, an initiative designed to encourage students to explore books, topics, and stories that spark curiosity, according to a September 8 report.
The program aims to help children view reading as something to look forward to rather than just an assignment by providing opportunities to choose books they enjoy.
As part of the September Family Reading Challenge, families are encouraged to visit a school or public library together. The challenge suggests that families browse new sections, ask librarians for recommendations, try new genres or authors, or obtain a library card to make choosing books a regular activity.
Provo City School District students and employees are scheduled to participate in the Utah Reads Statewide Read-A-Thon on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026. The event, which includes Governor Spencer Cox and First Lady Abby Cox, will have participants reading for one hour from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Families and community members are encouraged to participate in the statewide event. Details regarding specific school participation can be obtained by reaching out to local schools.
