Deer Valley Resort has announced 100 new ski runs for the 25/26 ski season, part of a transformational initiative known as Expanded Excellence. The naming of the new terrain is intended to honor the mining history of the Park City region.
The expansion includes 10 new lifts and has doubled the resort's skiable terrain. According to Steve Graff, Deer Valley Resort Vice President of Mountain Operations, the names were chosen to celebrate the resort's past while ushering in its future. The resort worked with Park City historian Michael O'Malley to draw inspiration from the area's mining era.
Many of the 100 new runs are named after local mining claims. Examples include Pay Rock, named for a prominent outcropping, and Green Monster, named for a copper ore found in a Wasatch County mine. Other runs include Keetley Express, which honors mining engineer Jack Keetley, and Deep Enuf, which honors the late mining engineer Keith Droste.
The resort's original terrain also features names honoring founding leadership and iconic influences. These include Stein's Way, celebrating ski icon Stein Eriksen, and Edgar's Alley, named for original owner Edgar Stern. Other names include Kimberly, Supreme, Ottobahn Trail, Carpenter Lift, and Burns Lift.
The Expanded Excellence initiative aims for a total of 202 open runs this season. To celebrate the expansion, the resort is offering Record Rates for Record Runs, which provides discounted half-day lift tickets on days when new records for open runs are set.
