A series of recent traffic accidents involving motorcyclists and bicyclists has resulted in multiple fatalities and critical injuries across Utah, according to recent reports from the Utah Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies.
Motorcyclists and Bicyclists Injured or Killed
A motorcyclist was hospitalized in critical condition following a crash on Interstate 15 in Draper, the Utah Department of Transportation reported. This incident follows several other recent motorcycle-related injuries and deaths across the state.
In Sandy, officials confirmed that a 55-year-old bicyclist died after being involved in a crash with a vehicle on Wednesday night, July 8. The collision occurred near the intersection of 400 East and 10600 South.
Fatalities and Critical Injuries
The Utah Highway Patrol reported a separate incident in which a 34-year-old man, who was not wearing a helmet, was airlifted to a nearby hospital following a motorcycle crash in Davis County.
In Murray, authorities identified 26-year-old Francisco Contreras Villarreal as the motorcyclist killed in a fatal collision near Intermountain Medical Center. This death occurred approximately three months ago.
Recent Bicycle Collisions
Recent reports also detailed a crash in Sandy involving a 60-year-old bicyclist who was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a car while attempting to cross a street. According to Sergeant Michael Olsen, the incident occurred on a Wednesday evening.
Further north, the Logan City Fire Department reported that a bicyclist was taken to the hospital after crashing on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail above a northeast Logan neighborhood.
Off-Highway Vehicle and Multi-Vehicle Crashes
In Garden City, the Utah Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division reported that a 17-year-old girl from California died after being ejected from an off-highway vehicle (OHV) that was full of teenagers performing 'donuts.' This incident occurred approximately one month ago.
Other notable motorcycle accidents include a crash near Quail Creek Reservoir in Hurricane, where a rider left the roadway and crashed approximately 30 feet down a ravine after failing to navigate a turn. Additionally, three motorcycles were involved in a collision on Trapper's Loop in northern Utah, with officials noting one motorcycle was traveling northbound on SR-176.
Legislative Changes and St. George Incident
The frequency of these incidents has drawn attention to safety regulations. A new Utah law, which took effect in May 2026, aims to tighten rules regarding high-powered e-bikes and e-motorcycles to address issues such as speeding and reckless driving.
In St. George, court documents from seven months ago revealed a bicyclist was placed on life support with no brain activity after being struck by a vehicle at an intersection. The driver involved in that incident was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.
Additional Regional Incidents
Other reported injuries include a bicyclist in South Salt Lake who sustained critical injuries in a hit-and-run accident near 2889 S 900 W, as well as an incident in Kaysville where a bicyclist was airlifted to the hospital following a head injury near a grocery store.
Additionally, the Kaysville Fire Department reported that first responders once had to revive a crashed bicyclist who was found without a pulse on a local trail.
