Real Monarchs snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Tacoma Defiance at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah. The victory marks an emphatic return to winning ways for the team after a period of roster changes and road trips.
The match saw several players earn their first starts for the Monarchs under Head Coach Mark Lowry. RSL Academy products Isaac Murphy and Nico Silva started in the midfield, while newly acquired Utah native Zach Lifferth made his first start at striker. Hayden Sargis also earned his first start in defensive midfield following a loan from Athletic Club Boise. Rylan Hashimoto made his professional debut as a substitute late in the game.
After a scoreless first half where both teams prioritized possession, the Monarchs increased their intensity following the break. Antonio Riquelme, who struck the crossbar in the 51st minute, assisted the opening goal in the 59th minute. Felix Ewald scored on a first-time volley from a Riquelme free kick to break the deadlock.
Ewald secured his second goal of the night in the 83rd minute, heading home a corner kick provided by Riquelme. The Monarchs completed the scoring in the 89th minute when Lionel Djiro finished a through ball from Riquelme with a left-footed strike. This marked Riquelme's third assist of the match.
The Monarchs concluded August with the victory. Their next match is scheduled for Friday, September 4, against North Texas SC at Texas Health Mansfield Stadium.
